A national nonprofit, 501(c)(3), organization
established in 1967 by disabled Vietnam veterans to serve the war injured.
DS/USA now offers nationwide sports rehabilitation programs to anyone with a
permanent physical disability. Activities include winter skiing, water sports,
summer and winter competitions, fitness and special sports events. Participants
include those with visual impairments, amputations, spinal cord injury,
dwarfism, multiple sclerosis, head injury, cerebral palsy, and other
neuromuscular and orthopedic conditions. |

Founded in 1956 as the National Wheelchair
Athletic Association, the name of the organization was changed in 1994 to
Wheelchair Sports, USA, to better reflect the organization's mission and goals.
The initial impetus to organize Wheelchair Sports, USA, grew out of the
interests of athletes with disabilities - many of whom were veterans of World
War II. |

U.S. Paralympics, a division of the U.S.
Olympic Committee, was created in May 2001 to focus efforts on enhancing
programs, funding and opportunities for persons with physical disabilities to
participate in Paralympic sport.

The Spina Bifida Association of America
(SBAA) serves the 70,000 adults and children who live with spina bifida. Since
1973, SBAA has served as the nation's only voluntary health agency dedicated to
enhancing the lives of those with spina bifida and those whose lives they
touch. Through its network of 57 chapters, SBAA has a presence in more than 125
communities nationwide and serves thousands of people each year.
SBAA’s programs give hope and strength to people
confronted with the challenges of spina bifida.
